About The Firm 

Shamim Steven Akhavan is both an Attorney and Certified Public Accountant that focuses his practice on tax controversy law. He represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, the California Franchise Tax Board, the Employment Development Department and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. 

His practice also includes civil and criminal tax examinations, administrative appeals and tax litigation in the United States Tax Court, United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court. 

Shamim began his career in tax by working at an accountancy firm preparing personal and corporate income tax returns. Then he worked as a tax attorney at a tax resolution firm, where he resolved hundreds of tax cases with the IRS and state taxing authorities. 

Shamim ultimately believes that effectively defending taxpayers requires a defensive mindset, knowledge of the substantive tax laws as well as the tax procedures, which are unique skills that Shamim has sought to develop throughout his professional career.
